Healthy 'n Fit is an individualized nutrition counseling program administered by a Registered Dietitian. Nutrition plans are created for each child based on his or her nutritional needs and weight goals. |

Healthy 'n Fit is designed for children ages 8-14, but some children slightly above or below the range may also benefit. Most older teens are referred to our LEARN Program. |

Program Objectives |

| •Children will be able to identify the proper portion sizes of foods in all food groups | ||||||
| •Children will consume a balanced diet incorporating all food groups on a daily basis | ||||||
| •Children will be able to differentiate between nutrient dense and calorie dense foods | ||||||
| •Children will limit consumption of sugar containing beverages, refined carbohydrates, and high fat protein and high fat dairy foods to lower caloric and fat intake promoting weight loss/maintenance | ||||||
| •Children and families will be able to identify emotional eating vs. eating for hunger and demonstrate strategies for preventing/ decreasing emotional eating | ||||||
| •Children and families will be able to identify low calorie food choices in restaurant | ||||||
| •Children will limit high fat/ high sugar foods to one time per week or less on a regular basis | ||||||

| •13 week one-on-one nutrition counseling program administered by Registered Dietitians | ||||||
| •Program is a highly structured, weekly program that involves both the overweight child and his or her family | ||||||
| •One-on-one format allows tailored nutrition plans to be created for each child based on his or her nutritional needs and weight loss or maintenance goals | ||||||

•Weekly format allows the dietitian to identify nutrition and fitness trouble areas for the child and/or family immediately and make the appropriate changes so that weight management success is maximized to the fullest potential |

| •Week to week goal setting and achievement tracking format encourages positive re-enforcement of nutrition and exercise behavioral change | ||||||
